With an aging population, suicide in
older people will become an increasingly important cause of
mortality in the coming years.
Whilst there are similarities in the risk
factors for suicide in this population when compared to the general
population, there are some important differences. This module aims
to highlight these differences by reviewing current knowledge of
the risk factors for completed suicide and deliberate self-harm in
older people.
With this information, the reader should be
better able to assess the risk of suicide in the elderly and
implement appropriate preventative management.
