Guide to plug-ins

How to install a plug-in

Visit the installation page for the plug-in you wish to obtain and follow the instructions given.

Once installed, often you will have to restart your system to make the plug-in active.

Plug-ins are generally free and as a casual user you should never have to buy jazzy versions: the free versions will do everything you want.

Finally, if you are using a slow internet connection and find that it takes a very long time to install plug-ins, or if you are worried about big phone bills, then you can often obtain the programs on disk by purchasing popular computer magazines. Many of the magazines have cover-mounted CD-Roms carrying up-to-date versions of all the most popular plug-ins.
