Authors' note
|
Over the course of these three modules, we
will explore a range of psychiatric problems in the under five age
group. These will not include aspects that are likely to be
covered in other child psychiatry CPD Online modules. Two specific
areas we will not be exploring are learning disabilities and
autism. However, it is important to mention that children in
both of these groups are more likely to exhibit behavioural
problems, particularly if they have speech and language
difficulties, which impact on their ability to make their
needs known.
We have also chosen not to include soiling and
wetting disorders. These children usually present to
paediatricians. If a child presents with a physical problem and
there is no evidence of a physical disorder, the focus often moves
to the psychological wellbeing of the child.
