Module introduction

By the end of this module, we hope you will be able to:

 

  • define physical activity and understand the Chief Medical Officers' (CMOs') weekly physical activity recommendations

     

  • demonstrate the benefits of physical activity through the bio-psycho-social model

     

  • list the potential risks of exercise and relative contraindications to participation

     

  • review medication regimes and physical health risks that may impact on physical activity participation

     

  • summarise the latest evidence base for physical activity interventions in schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder (BPAD) and major depressive disorder (MDD)

     

  • discuss insights from leading researchers and service users with expertise in physical activity interventions

     

  • outline exercise initiatives available within the community.
