Dr John MitchellConsultant Liaison Psychiatrist, Stobhill General Hospital and Huntershill Marie Curie Hospice, North Glasgow.

 

Dr John Mitchell has been Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at Stobhill General Hospital and the associated Huntershill Marie Curie Hospice in North Glasgow for over 10 years. He is Honorary Senior Lecturer in Psychological Medicine at Glasgow University. Previously he trained in general medicine in the West of Scotland and in Psychiatry in Edinburgh.

 

As an Edinburgh Senior Registrar he developed an interest in the psychiatry of palliative medicine, with work attachments to the Fairmile Marie Curie Hospice and the Western General Hospital palliative care team. He has lectured and published on psychiatry of palliative medicine. He was involved with the Scottish Executive Health Department in the creation of the Code of Practice for the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and is since involved in its Government commissioned review. He is Clinical Director for North and East Glasgow Mental Health services.
