Peter Carpenter, MB, ChB, FRCPsych

Locum Consultant Psychiatrist, Bristol Autism Specialist Service, Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.

 

Consultant psychiatrist in intellectual disabilities in Bristol since 1990, until semi-retirement in 2012. During this time, Dr Carpenter was psychiatrist to several specialist adult autism hospitals and care homes. He was a member of the NICE Guideline Development Group on the assessment and diagnosis of adults with autism (CG142), and helped develop the Royal College of Psychiatrists' diagnostic interview guide for able adults with autism and related online training resource. Dr Carpenter is currently on the executive committee of the Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry Special Interest Group (NDPSIG) and works part-time as a special visitor for the Court of Protection, as well as for the Bristol Autism Specialist Service.
