Learning outcomes

By the end of this module we hope you will:

know about the different models of madness from an historical perspective

understand how philosophical and scientific paradigms influenced views about causes and management of the insane, with particular reference to moral therapy

have an understanding of the disposal of the poor, vagrant and criminally insane up to 1800 with reference to significant legislation.
