Seasonal affective disorder (SAD): Part 1 -  History, epidemiology, aetiology and diagnosis

by Dr John M. Eagles and Dr Allen J. Shand

The idea that our well-being fluctuated with the seasons has been around for literally thousands of years, but it was only in the late 1980s that Norman Rosenthal and colleagues gave a name to Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD.

Here is a short video introduction to the module by Dr John Eagles. Please click on the small arrow at the bottom left to play the clip.

Please note that this module does not cover the management of SAD but is designed to be used in conjunction with the second SAD online module (see Seasonal affective disorder (SAD): Part 2) which covers the management of SAD in detail.

Also, although at the end of each SAD module there is a different end of module test, the take-home notes and reference list are the same.
