Professor Tony Holland qualified in medicine
from University College and University College Hospital, London,
and after some years in general medicine trained in psychiatry at
the Maudsley Hospital, London, eventually specialising in the field
of learning disabilities.
He is the first holder of the Chair in
Learning Disabilities awarded to the University of Cambridge by the
Health Foundation in 2002. He is part of an interdisciplinary
learning disability research group (http://www.ldrg.org.uk/) of
psychiatrists, psychologists and social scientists.
He was the Royal College lead on the MCA and
was one of two advisors to the Scrutiny Committee of the Joint
Houses of Parliament that examined the then Mental Incapacity
Bill.
