Current interests: cognitive processes in obsessive-compulsive and delusional disorders, psychopathology, transcultural psychiatry and psychopharmacology.

Dr Fear qualified in Liverpool, where he later gained an MD on cognitive processes in obsessive-compulsive and delusional disorders. He has retained a passion for psychopathology and an interest in these disorders. He became interested in transcultural psychiatry while working as a Senior Registrar with Professor Femi Oyebode in Birmingham, having met Saeed Farooq, who was then a Registrar on the same firm. Chris also has an interest in psychopharmacology and has published extensively in all of these areas of interest, has contributed a chapter on schizophrenia to the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ ECT Handbook (Scott, A. (Ed.) and has edited Essential Revision Notes for the MRCPsych (PasTest, 1994).

Current interests: somatisation and cross cultural communications in Asian communities, postnatal psychiatric disorders, medical education and psychiatric services in developing countries.

Professor Farooq qualified and had basic training in Psychiatry in Peshawar, Pakistan. He has published original work on somatisation and cross cultural communications in Asian communities living in Birmingham, assisted by fluent knowledge of five major languages spoken in the subcontinent. He is currently Head of an academic department of psychiatry which serves multilingual and culturally diverse populations in Northern Pakistan and adjoining Afghanistan. He is Coordinator of the Cochrane Site in Pakistan, being a member of steering committee of South Asian Cochrane Network (SACN), promoting the systematic reviews and evidence based medicine in Pakistan. His research interests also include postnatal psychiatric disorders, medical education and psychiatric services in developing countries. He is also editor of JPPS (Journal of Pakistan Psychiatric Society).
